about Superbowl LVIII set to take place in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11 when the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers. They also are true about the Superbowl commercials, which for some, are even more interesting and important than the game itself. Isn’t it ironic that for 364 days of the year, consumers generally prefer to skip the commercials and pay extra for streaming services to avoid having to sit through them, yet, on Superbowl Sunday, it’s the commercials that have many glued to their screens?

As a football fan, I look forward to watching the game on Sunday (although I’d look forward to it even more if my team were participating). As a marketer, I also look forward to seeing this year’s Superbowl commercials. Which ads will be exceptionally creative? Laugh-out-loud funny? Thought-provoking? Shocking? Will any of this year’s ads emerge as game changers for a brand?

For established brands seeking added visibility and top-of-mind awareness, or up and coming brands who want to build awareness and interest in their product or service among a large, diverse audience, a Superbowl commercial may be an effective strategy. From an advertiser’s perspective, the Superbowl presents a once-a-year opportunity to reach a large, captive audience. This year’s ads can be expected to touch more than 100 million viewers on game day. In addition, they will reach an expanded digital audience who will view the commercials online and share opinions about them on social media. Plus, many ads will enjoy plenty of pre-game “buzz,” fueled by teaser ads to whet our appetite. Several brands have released commercials for their commercials (!!) to help ensure viewers tune in to see the full versions on Sunday.

Some familiar brands such as Budweiser, Doritos, Pringle’s and e*Trade are repeat advertisers on the Superbowl stage. Other lesser-known brands will make the investment for the first time this year. Who knows, one of these brands may make a big impact like streaming service Tubi did last year with its “fake-out” ad that caused millions of Americans to scramble for the remote thinking someone had changed the channel. There’s no doubt that the potential reach and opportunity that comes from a Superbowl commercial is extraordinary.

The audience is big, but so is the price tag. This year’s advertisers are paying about $7 million for 30 seconds on air (on top of the hefty cost of ad production). The combination of the large opportunity and the steep price tag means the stakes are high for brands who advertise during the Superbowl. Advertisers can be expected to pull out all the stops to stand out from a crowded field and create a lasting impression, employing big-name celebrities, inspirational stories, dramatic special effects and more.

So, in the post-game analysis, which ads – and, most importantly, which advertisers – will viewers remember? Which ones will actually drive more business, increased revenue and enhanced brand affinity for the advertiser?

We know that one team – either Kansas City or San Francisco – will be crowned the champions of Superbowl LVIII. We don’t know yet which brands will be the champions off the field, and we look forward to finding out. I’ll be ready for that Monday morning conversation. Will you?

MKP communications inc. is a New-York based marketing communications agency specializing in merger/change communications for the financial services field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item">
By Brenna Donahue, Assistant Project Manager

With advances in technology, marketing professionals are publishing an increasing amount of digital content across all industries, including financial services. But, with a slew of marketing materials hitting customers’ inboxes, smartphones and social media feeds daily, what can you do as a company to garner the attention of those aimlessly scrolling? What steps can you take to make your content stand out, generate brand awareness and attract leads?

The average customer attention span is just 8 seconds and, therefore, it can be difficult for digital communications to have a lasting impact. While splashy images and punchy headlines can help draw initial interest from a customer, the “key ingredient” of an impactful and differentiated ad is interactive content that drive engagement. Engaging the customer with interactive content provides a two-way connection, allows for a more dynamic experience and creates a memorable impression that simple static or video ads struggle to achieve. Interactive content has spiked in popularity, with 75% of participants in a Content Marketing Institute survey stating that their company would increase the development and execution of interactive content marketing.

Interactive digital content can be utilized in many different formats: Consider a quiz that assesses users on the best product fit for their lifestyle, or a presentation that shows your data with animated infographics. Rather than passively scrolling past the material, viewers are invited to actively participate and provide input. By creating a customizable journey, users feel as though they are engaging in a personalized and immersive experience that holds their attention for a longer time and encourages a deeper understanding of the messaging. Companies that invest in catered content for users create a more effective experience and can help to distinguish their brand from competitors. And the investment pays off: interactive content converts buyers 70% of the time, which is almost double the conversion rate of static content.

Not only does interactive digital content differentiate your brand, but it can also help you gain insights about your audience through data tracking. Companies can utilize web tracking analytics to better understand customer journey from start to finish. Engagement metrics like unique visits, time spent on each page, links clicked, bounce and exit rates can all help marketers determine which elements of a campaign are performing well and which need to be optimized.

Utilizing interactive content allows for brands to take advantage of cutting-edge technology and stay on top of trends in the digital marketing landscape. Interactive brochures provide customers with a sophisticated experience that can be accessed on a variety of devices and browsers. Platforms such as Foleon, Ceros and Storly are all great tools for companies to build out and publish content. As technology advances, so do marketing opportunities. Getting your foot in the door with digital interactive content now provides opportunities down the line to optimize emerging technologies such as virtual or augmented reality.

Interactive digital campaigns are experiences, not just merely marketing messages. They constitute a means for your brand to create a positive user story and promote brand loyalty. These customizable and dynamic experiences encourage user satisfaction and long-term engagement, while also providing your team with valuable data to continue to refine targeting and optimize messaging. Is agency-side marketing really that different from being on the client-side?

Before I came to work at MKP, I had been on the client side of bank marketing for a long time (more years than I care to admit!) I’d had the opportunity to work with a number of different agency partners over the years and get a glimpse of agency life, but now, I’m part of an agency team that specializes in financial services marketing communications and I have an insider’s perspective on agency-side bank marketing, too.

The Marketing Juggling Act

Bank marketing teams are ultimately responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies and programs that are aligned with brand and business objectives, and, in so doing, they play a central role in a bank’s success. Whether it’s ensuring a successful launch of new or enhanced products and services, supporting entry into a new market or line of business or driving revenue growth through new customer acquisition or expansion and retention of existing customer relationships, marketing departments often juggle many projects and priorities. The challenges of driving results for multiple lines of business while building and enhancing a strong, cohesive brand that supports the entire bank are often complicated by tight budgets, limited resources and, inevitably, timelines that can only be politely described as less-than-desirable. (Why does everyone want something yesterday?) That’s why having agency partners to complement the internal team—providing more resources and additional expertise—was a must-have for me in my former client-side marketing leadership role.

I looked to agency partners as just that: partners. Successful agency relationships were those where the agency operated as an extension of our team. They invested time in understanding our business and our brand, brought fresh perspectives and shared insights from their work with other clients, pushed us (nicely!) to explore options and “out-of-the-box” thinking for addressing our business challenges and enhancing our results and delivered compelling creative and marketing communications that were aligned with our brand and strategy. Perhaps most importantly, they cared about our success. And yes, from time to time, they jumped through hoops for us to meet tight timeframes and demands.

A View from the Agency Side

What does all this look like from the agency perspective? While clearly not all agencies (or clients) are the same, I am now part of an agency team that does indeed view itself as a partner to its clients. In my first few months, I’ve experienced the perspective that our bank clients’ customers become our customers, the bank’s objectives and challenges become our objectives and challenges and their success translates into our success, too. So, we immerse ourselves in the client's brand. We ask lots of questions to gain a complete understanding of the communications needs and requirements. We work hard to create and deliver strategies and programs that inspire the desired response and deliver strong results. And we do everything we can to meet even the most challenging requests and deadlines.

So, is agency-side marketing really that different from client-side marketing? For me, the answer is no, it’s not a leap at all. While there are differences, like making recommendations and influencing outcomes as the agency versus making decisions and having accountability for program results as a client, those who love the many rewarding and challenging aspects of marketing can love it from either side.

The fundamental work we do as marketers—no matter what “side” you’re on—is to create positive perceptions and influence behaviors among a clearly defined target audience. To do it well requires passion, commitment and teamwork. The reality is, whether you are a bank marketer or agency marketer, you are working toward the same goals and there really are no “sides.” Success comes down to a fundamental understanding that we are all on the same team.

MKP communications inc. is a New-York based marketing communications agency specializing in merger/change communications for the Whether it’s a brand introduction from a new client or a brand update from an existing one, these meetings are different. The agendas are more open-ended, the focus more aspirational. We spend our time talking about feelings and moods instead of the usual bottom-line topics. Strange to say, it brings back all kinds of memories from my youthful dating days, with agency and client filling the roles of two very earnest but awkward teens trying to find ways to connect with each other. So, I thought it would be fun to dust off a few of the old dating rules I learned through painful trial and error over the years, to demonstrate some of the odd similarities the two experiences share.

Rule #1: Don’t talk about yourself too much.

Nothing’s worse than being on a date with someone who drones on about himself – or an agency that spends more time talking than listening. At MKP, we always bring the focus back to your company’s brand – where it’s been, where it’s heading, what you love about it and what you want to change. An agency that spends too much time talking about past clients is like a date who’s fixated on past relationships. Get over it! Focus on the relationship you’re beginning. This is the one that’s important.

Rule #2: Establish your do’s and don’ts.

Do you like sushi or not? Scary movies or not? Roller coasters or not? In relationships, answers to certain questions tend to be black and white. Same for most corporate brands. Some are pro-tagline, others avoid them like the plague. Some love warm, people-focused photography, others demand abstractions, or icons, or no photography at all. One of our most important tasks in exploring brand is to make sure we understand which boundaries are flexible and which aren’t, so we don’t get slapped in the face at the end of a bruising roller coaster ride, metaphorically speaking.

Rule #3: Be ready for the good times and the bad.

When your dinner reservation gets lost or the beach weather turns stormy, how do the two of you react? Sometimes you learn more about each other when something goes wrong than when everything goes right. The same is true of brands. As merger/change communications specialists, we frequently need to convey the kinds of messages not everyone wants to hear. And a brand expression that stands up for impacted customers, in word and in deed, is one of the hallmarks of a brand standard that been clearly thought out and articulated for all audiences. We’ll make sure it’s part of your brand agenda if it isn’t there already.

Rule #4: Find a way to grow together.

In good relationships, both people grow to become better than they were separately. Same with your company and your agency. For many clients, the brand is a fully defined, static sets of standards and guidelines, and we’re there to learn the rules. But every agency has something to add, particularly in graphic domains like direct mail, where graphic guidelines are frequently less fully defined than they are in other forms of print. If you can go into your brand meeting with the attitude that both participants have something unique to add, it opens the door to fresh perspectives -- and through this creative give-and-take process, you’ll find that your brand could benefit considerably.

# # #

“So Nick, what did you think of the meeting? This could work!

I really think this could work!”

“It was just one meeting,” says Nick. “Don’t go head over heels again, OK?

“Let’s see if they call us back.”

“Well, you know where I’ll investment of time (or money, if they have to pay a copywriter). Our answer is an emphatic YES! Here are the top three reasons why blogging is worth the effort:

Blogging can help you build your brand

It will improve your search engine optimization (SEO)

It’s an opportunity to selectively target your audiences and have a conversation with them

Build Your Brand

Like it or not, banking products are parity products. That is to say, the bank accounts at your bank are, more than likely, functionally equivalent to your competitors’ accounts. Sure you might have a flashy name, some interesting features, or a valuable incentive or bonus, but, given the nature of banking products, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd.

Enter: your blog. Look at it as a dedicated space for your marketing team to develop and refine your unique voice. If a key hallmark of your brand is empowering financial independence, then why not launch a blog series on just that topic? You can even invite different members of your team or outside experts to contribute to building a diversity of opinions.

What’s more, align your blogging with your marketing objectives and campaigns. For instance, if you’re launching a campaign promoting your home loans, be sure to build in a blog (or several) related to the campaign.

Increase Your SEO

It’s no secret that blogs go a long way towards increasing your SEO. This is especially true when you blog frequently enough to keep your blog up to date. Fresh content is key to beating out the competition in terms of organic search.

A few basic ground rules: categorize your blogs by topic and be sure to weave in plenty of keywords that you want associated with your brand. Additionally, don’t forget to include a healthy portion of internal links (i.e. links within your blog that link to other pages on your website). An added “plus” of having an informative and useful blog is that others may link to your website. Robust linking is one thing that Google, in particular, looks at when ranking websites.

Lastly, interactive, engaging, and longform blogs are proven to increase visitors’ time on page, which, in turn, increases SEO scoring. So, don’t hesitate to include videos, images, infographics and really do a deep-dive (according to one study, the average word count of a Google first page result is 1,890 words. Yet another claims that blogs with greater than three visuals yields three times the average time on page).

Target Audiences and Have a Conversation

Speaking of “deep dives,” another excellent opportunity that blogging presents is the chance to really segment your content by target audience. Perhaps even within the realm of consumer banking, you have several different “personas” you’re targeting: say, a college-educated millennial audience and a recently retired baby boomer audience. Your blog is the ideal place to provide a unique perspective to both audiences and to start a conversation with current and prospective customers. The simple act of writing the blogs, categorizing them by topic, and lacing them with keywords will provide visitors the means to self-select the content that appeals to them. Moreover, elsewhere on your website, like on related product pages. you can cross-link or tout your blog content. Having thought-provoking, educational, or supportive material deepens your credibility and can shorten the sales cycle.

Even if opening up commenting directly on your blog is not an option, you can always share your content on social media. Inviting your customers and followers into a conversation and engaging with them directly is a tried and true way of strengthening customer relationships and building trust.

So, what are you waiting for? Ready, set, blog!

MKP communications inc. is a New York City-based communications company that delivers spot-on strategy, smart, fresh creative, and flawless
The start of a new year… a new decade… and the pressure to set resolutions kicks in, yet again. This time we’re really going to eat better, exercise more, manage our money better, work smarter, be in better touch with friends and family. Sure, these are noble goals – things we should do, important goals for the new year, but vision is something very different. For ourselves, it’s the way we look at our lives, how we see our place in the world, and how we want to be seen. For our company, our vision is also about our future, our path, our growth, and our success.

And if 20/20 is the ideal measure of vision, the year 2020 is the perfect time to identify the 20/20 vision we hope to achieve.

In this usage, vision is defined as “the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom” (Lexico/Oxford). So as we enter this new year, let’s focus not just on a long-term vision for the future, but tangible steps we can take as individuals, and as a company, to live better, be better, and do better, starting fresh right now.

Set a designated “think time” for yourself every day. Be away from the screens. Be away from others. Be away from distractions. Take a walk, sit quietly in a dark room, excuse yourself from your day-to-day activities – even if it’s for just five or 10 minutes. Take the time to clear your mind and just think… about yourself, your feelings, and your vision.

Clear away “stuff.” To think clearly, we should do our best to eliminate distractions like piles of papers (calling out to be filed, read, or tossed), excess clothes we never wear (donate, donate, donate), old toys and books (a few mementos are fine, but not a library-full), old project files, et cetera. Digital storage is a great alternative!

Be a good friend. Reach out, connect, listen, be supportive, and offer advice. Strong personal relationships are the bedrock of a healthy soul, and a healthy business.

Be there. Keep your eyes and ears open. Absorb everything around you and react. Being present means you are aware and available to others around you. And that holds true in business as well as in our personal lives.

Seek joy wherever it may come from and be happy for what you have. Try not to dwell on the “if onlys” or the “poor mes.” Always find your glass half full.

At MKP, we are committed to making our second 25 years even better than the first, and we can only do that by working hard to bring our vision into 20/20 focus. We’re redoubling our commitments to:

Be a true partner. Show our clients that our wisdom and experience is there to benefit them. And it’s why they should continue to rely on us.

Listen more. Ask questions. Be proactive. Dig deep. That’s how we will add value and provide clarity to help our clients achieve their 20/20 visions.

Anticipate and respond to the needs of our clients (and their customers) with smart strategies, using all available channels and resources to deliver the message.

Get unstuck. Instead of relying on what may have worked in the past, be openminded. Let the juices flow and open new doors to develop creative solutions that spark better communications.

Collaborate with our colleagues. The MKP team is more powerful when we work together throughout the process of defining and achieving our vision.

So use your imagination… do what you can to feel satisfied, content, and fulfilled. Our individual and collective vision will begin to take shape and we will be ready to kick off the new decade with a renewed energy and optimism.

MKP communications field--label-hidden field__item">
Here at MKP, we know how to serve our financial institution clients because we’ve walked many miles in their shoes.

We recently interviewed three members of the MKP team to hear what they had to say about their experiences working on the “client side” before coming to work at MKP, and what their experience means for our clients.

How did working at a bank prepare you to work at an agency like MKP?

Pam Reich: My banking experience was primarily in retail marketing. I handled product management, market development, sales, sales training, systems conversions and bank mergers. I can relate to all of the clients we do business with because I’ve had their jobs. I hope that gives our clients a level of comfort. While the industry has changed over the years, just having that basic knowledge of how things work helps me successfully support our clients.

Max Chalkin: As Marketing Manager, and later on, Senior Marketing Manager, I managed the digital delivery of marketing and communications efforts. I was responsible for everything from the website, to how the bank’s brand appeared across our third-party applications to public relations.

I worked with all the different business lines and departments. I was exposed to people from across the bank and the various systems and technologies with which they worked. I gained the perspective of what marketing managers have to do to get approvals from their bank’s management, legal and compliance teams.

The number one thing I took away from my experience was learning the nuts and bolts of banking. I learned all the different types of products and services banks make available to their customers and how they turn a profit.

I frequently draw on my experience as a model for understanding what our clients and their stakeholders expect.

Laura DeLaCruz: I began my career right out of college and started in a branch management training program. During my banking career, I have been a Branch Manager, Operations Manager and Product Marketing Manager at different banks. My work history has given me varied perspectives on how products and campaigns are created, supported in the ‘back office’ and sold to the public. As a Branch Manager, it was very interesting to see how bank customers respond to marketing materials, account change information, and merger communications via the branch channel. And as a Product Marketing Manager, I fine-tuned my project management and multi-tasking skills. Gaining real, in-depth knowledge of the many products offered and an understanding of how front-line staff interacts with customers as well as learning how to get internal consensus from various stakeholders and keeping many balls in the air at the same time prepared me well for working here at MKP.

When you worked at a bank, how do you think having a marketing partner who really understood your business might have helped you?

Pam: While I worked with many agencies and partners when I was the client, I most appreciated the partnerships I established with those who understood my challenges, and were able to make my job easier with solutions that achieved our business goals. I learned a lot about everything from strategy and messaging to data and production from these partners, and that education made me feel more connected to them. Now that I am on the agency side, I can be a better partner to my clients because I’ve been in their shoes and I understand.

Max: When I was on the client side, I appreciated when an agency thought critically about our brand and surfaced a fresh perspective. They look at the bank’s brand from a distance and help bring it to life in different ways.

At the bank, I actually worked with MKP as a partner on several initiatives. The fact that they have such a long tenure in the industry, having worked with many different clients, and with many team members coming from banking backgrounds, gave me confidence. It put me at ease knowing we had found a team of experts that could handle the challenges, whatever they may be.

Laura: It would have been great to work with an agency like MKP, which has a singular concentration in financial services. We could have relied on their deep understanding of bank products and services to craft messages with customer-friendly language. And we could have rested easy because we both knew what’s at stake: personalized customer account information needs to be correct 100% of the time and legal deadlines can’t be missed.

How does your bank experience make you a better partner?

Pam: Now at MKP, I am keenly aware that my experience helps build trust with our clients. It solidifies our relationships with them because they know we’re on their side.

Max: At MKP, our past experience working at banks gives us a unique perspective. We see ourselves as being a part of your team; we’re supplementing the resources you have. We get the need for compliance reviews. We know the deadlines you face. We understand the products you sell.

Laura: Our collaborative nature and the depth of our experience helps us help you.

MKP communications inc. is a New York City-based field--label-hidden field__item">
Your call center is quiet… and that’s a good thing.

If you’re a bank marketing exec, you usually try to come up with ideas that will resonate with customers and prospects, leading them to eagerly respond online, on the phone, or in person at the branch.

But sometimes the lack of response is what you want. In these instances, silence is golden.

Let’s say you’re tasked with delivering customer change information, such as a branch closing, a product update, or a change in online services. On those occasions, the best measure of success is when the phones don’t ring and your branches don’t get inundated with confused or irate customers. If all is quiet, you’ve done a good job explaining the change and its impact.

Here are a few tactics to help you achieve that goal.

Prioritize your message.

The key points of your communication are the WHAT, WHEN and HOW of the change, so find a way to feature them prominently in a sidebar or callout box.

If there is an action the customer needs to take before the change becomes effective, your top priority should be to highlight the date and times when customers need to complete the action. And if no action is required, make a big deal about it. You’re making this change easy for your customers.

Include a phone number for questions and a website URL for additional details.

Include access to a set of frequently asked questions—reiterating key messages and providing additional detail on specific topics.

Remember, chances are slim that your recipient will read every word in your letter, so make sure all key points are skimmable

2. Communicate what is not changing.

Change can be intimidating, so if there are aspects that are not changing (such as fees, rates, login credentials, branch/call center hours and staff), state that clearly.

Highlight the key selling points that will remain, which can remind customers why they chose the product or service in the first place.

3. Consider the timing.

Many changes that affect customers, such as updates to your product line or fee increases must be communicated 30 days prior to the date the change goes into effect. However, if there is customer action required, consider mailing even earlier than this 30-day requirement to ensure customers have ample time to respond.

On the other hand, if you are providing new login credentials for online banking, mail them closer to the effective date. That way, customers have time to receive them, but not enough time for them to misplace or forget about the letter. A good guideline here is to mail this kind of information approximately two weeks prior to the date the change goes into effect.

4. Personalize to identify account(s).

It’s helpful to provide the customer’s account number(s)—or last four digits—in your letter. If the change affects only one or two accounts, you can list the account number(s) in a subject line or headline. Multiple accounts for the same customer can be consolidated in a chart within the letter. Providing this level of detail can alleviate customer confusion since it is clear which accounts will be affected and may reassure them that you have considered their total relationship.

5. Use multiple touchpoints.

When it comes to conveying change information, there’s no such thing as over-communicating. Reach out to customers using printed and electronic methods to help ensure that your message is seen. Suggested touch points include:

Direct mail

Email and secure messages within online banking programs

Banners and interstitials on your website, linking to a microsite with more detailed information

Generic statement inserts or statement messages for changes that affect your entire audience

6. Be true to your brand.

Ensure that your brand’s promise and voice are reflected in all customer touchpoints and communications. After all, your brand supports your company’s performance by helping to retain and build share of wallet of existing customers, while keeping attrition rates low.

Keeping these six tactics in mind as you create your change communications will result in clear, timely information that will help assure a more positive customer experience… and a quiet call center.

MKP communications come to work! What could be better than work?

I love the ride into New York City with the window down, especially when traffic stops on the West Side Highway and we get to admire the skyline for an hour or so. Then there’s our stroll through the Flatiron District, where every pooch looks like a fashion model and every lamp post has a story to tell. I wish I could come to work every day!

As soon as we get to the office, I assume my role as MKP’s official greeter. It’s a job I do with gusto! As visitors arrive I like to jump up and give them a big hello, really leaning in for a good lick or two. (I find that subtlety is lost on humans.) I even bark a loud howdy-do every time the elevator passes by our floor! I want everybody to know I’m here, because we wet-nosed staffers are severely under-represented in the American workplace.

Another important assignment is checking the trash cans for any food items that may have been carelessly thrown out. Waste not, want not! I continue to monitor the trash situation throughout the day, keeping an eye out for recyclable items like ink cartridges, which I can chew open to make sure there’s no ink inside.

Of course, it’s not all play at MKP. I often contribute to conference calls, and I don’t hesitate to express my opinion at the HIGHEST POSSIBLE VOLUME! It seems to make a big impact, because someone immediately hits the red mute button on the phone and everybody starts shouting “Oliver! Oliver!” I accept their kudos with canine humility and exit gracefully.

Twice a day, I make it a point to take Hillary or one of the other MKP team members out for a walk. I find that the fresh air perks them up nicely! (Though they all take a strange interest in my basic bodily functions, which they discuss in hushed tones when I return. Puzzling.)

Finally, there’s a chance for a little “me” time. I like to demonstrate proper work/life balance by taking an afternoon nap in the middle of the floor, while various staff members make envious comments as they skirt around me.

Then it’s time to wake up and go home! I make my good-bye rounds, perhaps placing a soggy chew-toy in a lucky person’s lap to signify a job well done.

Oh, how wonderful it is to be such a valued part of the MKP team! I wish I could come to work every day!

MKP communications inc. is a New York City based communications company that delivers spot-on strategy, smart, fresh creative, combined with flawless execution, exclusively for financial services clients.

Blog Category

brand

fun

Wed, 30 Oct 2019 22:14:24 +0000 max 144 at https://mkpteam.com Ensuring That Your Brand Is Giving Its All! After all, your brand supports your company’s performance by helping to retain existing customers and attract new customers for your products and services.

Keeping your brand fresh is especially important given the influx of new technologies, ever-shifting customer demographics and consumer desires. It’s when your brand stops evolving that the challenges begin!

If you suspect that your brand has become a little stale, here are a few suggestions to ensure that your brand continues to work harder than ever.

Take your brand out to lunch.

Find a convenient date on the schedule and gather the troops, including marketing, product and customer contact staff, for a brainstorming session about your brand and how it’s performing. An offsite location like a restaurant is ideal, because you’ll want people to be as relaxed and forthcoming as possible. Start kicking around questions like these:

What makes us different as a company?

How do our products and services play into that difference?

How do we want to define ourselves?

What is our corporate personality? Warm and fuzzy? Kooky and irreverent?

Are our personality and the way we define or think about ourselves aligned?

What do our loyal customers say about us?

Why did our former customers leave?

Are there any marketing campaigns or promotions that have worked well this year? And how about initiatives that haven’t worked well?

Your goal should be to come away with a clear idea of your company’s strengths from the customer perspective. The team should also be able to clearly articulate how you define yourself. In addition you need to make sure that your company’s personality and your view of it, are aligned. You have to confidently say, “We’re the company that does X better than our competitors and this is why our customers choose us.” If your current brand doesn’t work to crystallize these sentiments, you need to refocus it.

Think of your brand constantly.

To many people, a brand is little more than a logo, tagline, color scheme and maybe a mission statement. It is so much more! In addition to the creative elements such as color palette, typography, usage of photography that support a brand, you should develop brand guidelines that include:

Brand promise – This is the contract you make with your customers. It’s a commitment to what your customers can expect, and what you hope to gain from them in return. And this promise is vitally important, because it helps to lay the groundwork for all of your customer interactions.

Brand voice – How do you talk about yourself both through words and imagery? Are you friendly and open, or formal and serious? This is influenced by your offering and your promise, and it has to be consistent.

Brand integration – Branding MUST extend to every aspect of your business, from how you answer the phones to how you phrase every customer communication, no matter the channel. Everything you communicate, all the way down to the style of your employee email signatures, should be infused with your brand.

Show your brand off.

Once you’ve defined your brand and extended it throughout your company, how do you get the word out? Following are a few simple tips:

Use your logo strategically and frequently; while ensuring that the placement reflects your personality and how you think about your brand.

Develop all written communications and visual imagery keeping your brand voice and promise in mind.

If you create a tagline, make sure it’s memorable and provides a meaningful and concise statement that reflects your brand promise.

Design templates and create standards for all marketing marketing materials that reflect your brand guidelines.

Be true to your brand. Customers won’t return to you, or refer you to others, if you don’t deliver on your brand promise.

Be authentic. Don’t use your tagline or mission statement as a crutch, so you’re repeating rote phrases to your customers. Keep looking for different statements and actions that express your brand promise in fresh and believable ways.

And above all, remember this: your brand needs to continuously evolve to reflect your company and the benefits of your product or service relative to an ever-changing market. A successful brand takes constant nurturing. But we promise, if you make the ongoing effort, the rewards will make it all worthwhile!

MKP communications inc. is a New York City based communications company that delivers spot-on strategy, smart, fresh creative, combined with flawless execution, for financial services clients.

Blog Category

brand

marketing

   Wed, 30 Oct 2019 21:19:42 +0000 max 138 at https://mkpteam.com
